A scholarship is an amazing gift that is given from foundations, corporations, and universities. Scholarships are given to students that have earned them. There are varieties of different kinds of scholarships some are purely based on a students GPA and SAT scores, others are for students that are wanted for their athletic abilities, and some are based on ethnicity. Almost all scholarships that are given command a minimum GPA from the student. Even student with athletic scholarships can loose those scholarships if they fail to keep the minimal GPA. Certain scholarships that are given from corporation are usually given to the children of the employes. These scholarships are usually have to be earned by these students. They are much easier to get than a normal academic scholarship, but are most of the time worth less.
Financial AidThere are two major forms of financial aid, and these are, gifts and loans. A federal education grants would fall into the category of a free "gift," and there are the other form of financial aid is a low interest rate federal loan. Of course, the more desired financial aid would be a grant, but to receive these grants you have to meet a certain criteria. For example, the U.S Government's Pell grant is only given to students that make less then $40,000 a year, and usually grants are given to undergraduates.

College Savings Plans and Prepaid Tuition Plans
With college tuition continuing to rise it is always a great idea to get a head start on saving. There are two general options for college saving. The first is a prepaid tuition plan and with this plan you basically have a credit with a university or private college and it also allows you to lock in a tuition price with this desired college of your choosing. A college saving plan can be a number of different things: mutual funds, bond mutual funds, money market funds, and age-based portfolios. These more conservatively based investments will be more beneficial when getting closer to the college age.
